Brahmo
Samaj founded in 1828 by Raja Rammohun Roy in Calcutta, the Brahmo Samaj
is a religious movement. At its centre is the belief that there is one
God, who is omni-present and omniscient. It initially evolved in India
where it differed from existing practice as it did not believe in idol-worship
or the caste system. The Brahmo religion is now practised in many parts
of the world. The Brahmo Samaj has played a significant role in the renaissance
of India, and the roots of much of the modern thinking in India can be
traced back to the Brahmo movement. Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel Laureate,
was one of the luminaries of the Brahmo Samaj. " Harmony of Religions. Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of man. " " Practice and preaching of monotheistic fellowship of Faith aimed at purifying, simplifying, unifying and beautifying religion. " " This wide universe is the sacred temple of God. The heart is the shrine for pilgrimage. Truth is the scripture everlasting. Faith is the root of Religion. Asceticism is the elimination of selfishness. " " Work and Worship by which no created object or person is to be honoured as God; no book or prophet is to be accepted as the sole and infallible source of Truth; and no mediator is to be recognised between man and God. " Brahmoism appears to have taken root in Bangalore around 1869 when Pettah Samaj was established. The Social reformation spearheaded by Raja Rammohun Roy, spread to this region too. More. ......
